Mock NBA Draft 2011: Best Picks

To review the Mock NBA Draft 2011 look at previous post.

(1) Cleveland Cavaliers-  Derrick Williams
Derrick Williams has been discredited by some scouts as being a bit of a tweener (PF-SF).  Not completely sure how he will fit into the NBA, I don't think it matters.  Williams shot over 50% from 3 this entire season, and he has a great reputation for never taking a bad shot (Top 5 NCAA player for PER).  The Duke game in the Sweet 16 is a perfect example of what a team could expect-- monster dunks and efficient 3-pt shooting.  The Cavaliers can immediately fill him into the revolving door that it has had at the 3 position.

(3) Washington Wizards- Harrison Barnes
Harrison Barnes was easily the most anticipated freshman of this year's class.  Projected to be a freak athlete with elite basketball IQ, Barnes was a Pre-season All American.  Early in the season, Barnes didn't immediately live up to the hype.  As the season progressed, Barnes asserted that he is both an athlete (though not as freakish as some hoped) and a crunch time scorer.  Pairing Barnes with Washington PG, John Wall, will create a solid base for Washington moving forward.

(12) Utah Jazz- Jimmer Fredette
When every team you play double teams you and covers you with their best defender, but you still score 28.9 ppg and find teammates for 4.3 apg then your game will translate.  The Jazz are desperate for a creator.  With the departure of Deron Williams, Fredette can help fill the need for immediate offense.  There are questions about Fredette's defense (read: BIG questions) but I agree with BYU coach Dave Rose that when he can share some of the load on offense, then the defense will pick up.  Plus, the BYU-Utah connection won't hurt the excitement of a confused fan base.

(24) Oklahoma City Thunder- Kenneth Faried
More commonly known as "The guy on Morehead St. with the dreads, you know, who rebounds," Kenneth Faried draws the biggest comparison to rebounding legend Dennis Rodman.  Faried has a never ending motor combined with a real knack for understanding where rebounds are going.  Faried is also well known for being a great teammate.  OKC  would absolutely love this player.  He will be a perfect fit to spell F/C Serge Ibaka and F/C Kendrick Perkins.  I am the most sure of anybody Faried will still be on an NBA roster in 2020.

(28) Boston Celtics- JaJuan Johnson
JaJuan Johnson joined Harrison Barnes as a AP Preseason All-American.  Johnson delivered a very solid season, improving on his junior year numbers with 20.5 ppg, 8.6 rpg, and 2.3 bpg.  Johnson doesn't have the highest ceiling of any player in the first round, but  he would perfectly behind Kevin Garnett for Boston.  KG can also help develop a player that finished 30th in blocks per game.
