This is one of the sadder stories in the NBA this season. Brandon Roy is set to face facts that his knees just can't hold up anymore.
To Brandon, this is a good move. When you are 65 and your grandson wants to shoot hoops or you want to see his games, I think that may be something that is still possible. Enjoy your life outside of basketball.
This leads to an interesting situation with the Blazers who can save their amnesty clause and a ton of cap space if this goes through. There are a number of requirements including waiting the season for cap space to open up and having a doctor confirm that the injuries or illness are too much for the wear and tear of basketball.
If I had to guess though, I think Roy will show up on the court a couple more times before it is all said and done. He is such a fierce competitor that I think when it gets down to it, he will won't need to talk himself into it.
